HERITAGE SERVICE DOGS - BREEDING PROGRAM
Our goal is to maintain the social nature of our standard poodles and proof their amazing instinctive skills. We do not run a kennel. All of our dogs are placed as young puppies into their forever homes through our guardianship program. Unlike foster care, which is a temporary placement with a volunteer family, for a specific purpose. Guardianship is designed to be a home for life. Since these dogs are living 15 to 17 years, this is a long term commitment. Our guardian families have an understanding of the work we do, and a heart for the service we are providing for the disabled.
This partnership provides a top quality standard poodle puppy and service dog training in exchange we maintain full breeding rights. Our program is not about breeding dogs for the sake of breeding dogs. We specifically choose top quality pure-bred, AKC registered standard poodles with excellent temperament, size, structure, health and longevity. These dogs are great family pets and make amazing service dogs.
Heritage Service Dogs maintains full breeding rights with the intention of breeding the girls once a year for up to 6 litters. The boys may be used multiple times per year. We pay for any pregnancy related medical expenses, and for the spay or neuter at the end of the program. Guardians have the same responsibility to the care and maintenance of their dog as they would for any other dog they own, and to deliver the dog to us for breeding and whelping. Our guardians are separated from their dogs for short periods of time for breeding purposes, and the females will be gone for about 7 to 8 weeks a year for whelping and raising their puppies through weaning. The boys come for a few days at a time for breeding purposes. Besides becoming a loving part of their family, these dogs may complete our service dog training program and assist their family with service work, emotional support or work as therapy dogs.
