You can train your own service dog.

I am very excited to tell you about our Service Dog Program, including our AKC registered Standard Poodle puppies and our online training.

Heritage Service Dogs provides a unique opportunity for those with one or more disabilities to train their own service dog. We are a cross disability organization. That means our dogs can help with a variety of physical, cognitive, medical, emotional and combinations of disabilities.

We are committed to providing top quality standard poodle puppies bred specifically for service work. These dogs are bred for temperament, intuition, structure, health and longevity for several generations. Every part of our breeding and training program is designed to maintain and support these qualities in our dogs. Our puppies instinctively start picking up on changes in your body chemistry and behaviors typically within the first few weeks of placement, working competently in public by 6 to 8 months and can pass the public access test by around a year of age.

Our training program was created for distance learning, so we are not limited by our clients’ location or their physical or financial ability to travel. Our puppies are placed with their disabled partner at around 9 to 10 weeks of age. Then we help coach you through the process of training with our online classes and personal attention. Our training is designed to meet each client’s individual needs. Instead of training dogs to help with a disability, your dog is trained to take care of you, and your specific needs. By learning to train your own dog, you have the skills to tune up current tasks or teach your dog new tasks as your conditions change. We also teach you about the ADA law, how to deal with questions and public access.

People that need a service dog the most are often the least able to afford one. It is our goal to keep our program as affordable as possible without sacrificing the quality we are known for. Heritage Service Dogs is a family owned and operated agency. With our combined experience in business, animal husbandry, as a Certified Dog Trainer, a Vet Tech and in human medicine, we are able to provide this service for much less than a standard service dog program. The cost of our program is $3,700 for the AKC registered Standard Poodle puppy and our personalized service dog training assistance program.

We plan for two or three litters a year and are puppies are usually available within a few weeks to a few months. We love working with these incredible dogs. Our best reward is helping people with disabilities live fuller more independent lives.

Let us know how we can be of assistance.
